Dr. Ambedkar
Institute of Technology, affiliated to Bangalore University, is a Grant-in-Aid
Institution of the Government of Karnataka. This Institution gets the
highest receives from Government of Karnataka among all the aided colleges.
The institute
is situated at Mallathahalli, a distance of 12 kms from city railway station,
and adjacent to Jnana Bharathi Campus of Bangalore University, in an area
of 23 acres of land. There is a proposal to acquire another 50 acres of
land under the expansion programme. The Campus is well connected to the
city by buses. The College is also running several buses for the transportation
of students.
Our Trustees
in a Nutshell :
The
Institute is run by Panchajanya Vidya Peeta welfare Trust, established
in August 1979 by Late Sri. M. H. Jayaprakash Narayan, M.L.A. The college
is run by dedicated Trustees. Three of the trustees are retired Chief
Engineers of Government of Karnataka. As such, they are committed to provide
excellent technical education to the student community. It is the desire
of the management to develop this Institute as one of the foremost centres
of technical education in the country.
Achievements
of Our Staff :
The
staff members are actively engaged in Research and development activities.
Many of the staff members have acquired their Ph.D. degrees and some are
working for this highest degree in academics. In all the departments,
staff members are sent to institutions of higher learning like IITs to
acquire the post graduate and Ph.D. qualifications under the Quality Improvement
Programme. Majority of the departments are headed by senior staff with
Ph.D. qualifications. Some of these senior staff have successfully guided/guiding
candidates for Ph.D/M.E. degrees. They also occupy high status in academic
circles of the University like member of Academic council, member of Board
of Examiners, Question paper setters and Chief Examiners in several Universities,
Custodians etc. In view of the grant-in-Aid status, academic environment
and facilities, the college attracts qualified teachers to join our Institution.
The institution has a very enviable staff to student ratio of 1:13. It
is rated very high in academic circles of the University in view of large
number of experienced, highly qualified and motivated staff.
Teachers
are sent to present papers on their research work in various seminars,
conferences and workshops at other Institutions, both national and international.
One staff member of Civil Engg. department presented a paper in the International
Conference at Sweden recently. All the departments also conduct AICTE
sponsored courses and seminars during every academic year. Three such
programmes were conducted by the Computer Science Dept. during the last
academic year.

All the departments
are constantly upgraded with new and latest equipment's to satisfy the
requirements of the norms set in the semester schemes. A full fledged
CAD lab is established in the department of Mechanical Engg and active
research is being carried out in this department in the area of Material
sciences.
In the department
of instrumentation Technology, the printed Circuit Board laboratory is
set up at a cost of Rs. 8 lakhs and is one of the best in the Bangalore
University.
Some of the
departments of our college are in receipt of financial assistance by All
India Council for Technical Education for modernisation of laboratories
and for conduction of research. The college has 30 KVA diesel Generator
to cater to laboratory needs during power failure. Many departments have
set up their own departmental library.
Building
A
New building at a cost of Rs.6 crores with another 40 lecture halls and
16 laboratories has been commissioned. This provides adequate accommodation
for handling all theory classes and laboratories. All the departments
are provided with spacious laboratories and workshops, which are equipped
with sophisticated instruments.
Library
Dr.B.R.
Ambedkar centenary Building houses a well equipped library which has all
the latest books and journals in different fields of Engineering. It has
more than 16,000 titles. The Library has well furnished spacious reference
hall which can accommodate 200 students. There is a Xerox machine for
the benefit of students. It is proposed to provide Email and Internet
facilities to the staff and students very shortly.
Achievements
of Our Students
One
student of Electronics department has successfully completed his IAS Examination.
Recently, Indian Society for Technical Education student chapter was started
and all the students are taking active part in conducting various activities.
In the departments of Civil and Information Engineering science the results
are 100% and overall the college has secured 82% results in the 7th semester
examination conducted during February 1996.
A good number of computer science students qualified in the 'Gate 96'
examinations. Several students participated in Technical paper contest
at Karnataka Regional Engineering College Suratkal.
Incentivities
to Students and Staff.
To
encourage bright students, who bring laurels to the college, certificates
and prizes are awarded for the students who secure highest marks in each
semester of every branch and Gold Medals are awarded to students who secure
ranks. The Management, the staff and some of the parents have also instituted
a number of prizes to meritorious students. The Institution has a number
of schemes to motivate the teaching community.
Teachers
are awarded Certificates for authoring of books under renowned publishers,
for publishing research papers in International journals, for conducting
All India Council for Technical Education sponsored courses etc.
Scholarships
State
and Central Governments are awarding scholarships such as Merit/Backward/SC/ST
and defence scholarships to enable students to take up higher studies.

Sports
There
is a full fledged sports section. Special emphasis is laid on Cricket,
VolleyBall, Throw-Ball, Ball Badminton and Kabbadi. A number of indoor
games are also available. Regular sports activities are conducted and
the students are sent to different institutions to represent the college.
The college also organises inter-collegiate tournaments.
Hostels
Well
designed separate Hostels for boys and girls with all modern amenities
are available. The Hostels are run on sharing basis. For details the Hostel
